WARNING: Graphic violence with scenes that some readers may find disturbing. This is a brutal post-apocalyptic world where women are scarce due to gendercide, and therefore, makes for an unconventional romance.
Honestly I’m super sad and disappointed that I didn’t enjoy this. I don’t wanna hash this too much, but basically the quibbles I had for Calico descending were multiplied.
There was just too much of Calithea and Camdus for my taste, seeing as I already didn’t like them together, having a lot of it in this book made me really struggle to get through it. I disliked Camdus to begin with and what I liked about Calithea was just drifting away for me the more time she spend with the alphas and not with Vladys. On that note, it took them ages to back to each other, for Vladys and Cali to reunite. Too much time spend apart for me to see them as a great couple. Especially since I mentioned this in the last book, they hadn’t spend a lot of time with each other to begin with.
It was nice to Rhys and Wren again though! I had really enjoyed their book so it was lovely seeing them. Perhaps I was more interested in them than Cali and Vladys which probably didn’t help matters.
It’s undoubtable that Keri Lake is a great writer, she excels at the dark, gory and twisted stories and the beautiful, heartbreaking romance/love that blooms in it. I just had a difficult time with this one but this might just be me.
Overall, I was left feeling unsatisfied, unsure if I’ll read the next book in the series (I might get curious and try it out or just stay clear, we’ll see I guess….) It seems like I’m in the minority for this so if you loved Calico descending, then you’ll enjoy this one too.
